The "Hay "-less Meddows.
A magistrate's clerk was taking down the evidence of a witness, and asked what her name was. "Meddows," she replied'. "How do you spell it, madam?" "Hem, He, D. D. ao, Double U, Hess." "Ah! then there's no 'Hay' in your nieddows?" remarked the witty scribe, to the amusement of the court.
