MR ROBERTSON RETURNED.
Polling in connection \yitli the second 'ballot for the election of a member of Parliament for the Otaivi electorate took place yesterday, and resulted in the return of Mr J. Robertson, the Labour-Socialist candidate, by the narrow majority of 21 votes. There are still some 35 permit retuns to come to haaid, but it is unlikely that these will affect the issue. Polling proceeded steadily during the afternoon in Otaki, and tthe counting was rapidly _ proceeded with under the superintendence of Mr J. Hurley, the returning officer, who throughout the election carried out his multifarious duties with tact and courtesy. The results were made known about eight o'clock from the courthouse, and 1 were again announced omtside the Town Hall. A goodly crowd assembled, and. Mr Robertson warmly tHanked the electors for returning him. Mr Field also spoke, and thanked all who had voted for him. There was no groat volume in tho oheering, and the candidates almost immediately set out for Levin. To Mr Ross fthe postmaster} at Otaki and the whole of his staff a word of special praise is due. Their courtesy to the Press greatly facilitated the work of the reporters.
