DISTRICT NEWS.

JBVENTB IN SHANNON. (Chronicled by our Resident Representative )

The polling was somewhat larger than three years ago. The town was quiet and orderly and all parties worked industriously for their political choice. It was anticipated that Mr Robertson would poll 1 well here. •

The electoral poll was in charge of Mr Voysey, and the licensing was presided over by Mr H. J. Richards (of Koputaroa). Everything was conducted in a manner that reflected credit on these officers.

A great crowd mustered in front of the old 1 Post Office, where the numbers polled by each candidate at the different booths were shown. Mr Field's majority was heartily received.

The No-license party are pleased at the strides made in" the dominion vote, but are not satisfied with the local option vote, which has receded.

Out of the. 460 votes cast in llic Shannon booth there were onlv six informal votes.

There appears to lie much trouble and time lost in Me absentee* voters' permits. Tlic .system 'appears to bo altogether too cumbersome.
