WANGANUT, This Day. Soundings taken on the bar this morning revealed a recorded minimum depth of. twenty-one feet r,t average high water, which is l>w:> feet more than last soundings six weeks ago. This is deemed higtily satisfactory in face of the recent very heavy weather, which was expected to cause a little silting. r,, he improvement is held to show fhat tlie extension of tho moles to t;,c
full lengtihi, as provided by tho ptesent scheme, has, as predicted by Mr Leslie Reynolds (consulting engineer) ■and Mr Howorth (resident engineer) resulted in holding the outgoing eurront to its work in clearing ihe bar. As a matter of fact "there is now practically no bar left, the obstruction which* previously existed having been almost completely removed.
