An extraordinary lively lneotLag, marked by a iiniquo incident, was 'lield at Arainoho last evening, when W. J. Maguire, under engagement to the Patea Licensed Victuallers' Association, addressed a, crowded audience in .support of the trade. Hundreds nwc una-blo 'to gain id- ; mission. From the outset ib was apparent that the mooting was largely hostile to Maguire, who spoke amid a continual fire of interruptions, the strain of which, combined with the great heat of a close night, almost overpowered him. He struggled pluckily on, but when three parts through his address, -kind when the audience seemed to be getting | out of hand, the Rev. George Tiegoar, a visiting No-license advocate, whom Mag-iire had attacked in very vigorous terms, appealed to the audience to give Maguire a fair hearing, intimating that he would reply to tho charges made against himself la tor on. Mr Maguiro thanked Mr Tregear for his action and continued liis address, but interruptions continued. Finally, tfhen on rhe verge of collar-so, and acting on Mr Trogear's advice, Mr Maquirc u r as compelled to close tho meeting. Mr Trogoar then followed with a few minutes' vigorous speech in rcfutal of till© charges made sigaiinst linn, a.nd afterwards addressed n iarge crowd onfa'de the hall.
