EVENTS IN SHANNON
(Chronicled by our Resident Representative )
Archbishop Redwood conducted a confirmation, service at fat. Johepn * on Sunday. The church was crowded to the door. His grace prcac.icd a very impressive sermon on the sacrament of confirmation. lhe following were confirmed, viz: Masters Hemingsen, Smith, J. . Moynihan, W. Gill, T. Gill and J. Ryan; Misses Smith, Wills, I. Judd, A. Jndd and Thelma Hemnigsen, and in addition to these there wore six adults. Tho Catholics were much pleased with tho visit of tho head of their chnrch in tho dominion and his grace feelingly acknowledged their loyaltyTho Church of England bazaar and flower show promises to ho an affair of some importance. Tho lathes oi the chnrch are vory busy gett.ng everything in order. Mr V iek, !M.P'., accompanied % Mrs Field, ! has heen invited to open the bazaar I on the 24th.
Tho high winds that have, prevailed for this Inst four weeks has orevented tho rifle club from following up their nsnnl practice on Saturdays.
Tiro programme- for the Drr.ds' sports has been adopted. The prizes arc iroro than could bo expected in a town the sizo of Shannon.
Parents would do well to warn tlioir children against going into orchards. Heavy spraying with arsenate of lead, is now taking place. Arsenate ot load, as is well-known, is a deadly poison, and groat care should ho taken for this next, throo months.
