Simplified Spelling.
-fr- —— An Anglo-American confer© ice, convened bo establish' a scheme of •simplified spelling, bold its first meeting *on Monday at University college, London. The conference consists principally of representatives of tho American Simplified Spelling Board and the English Simplified 'Spelling Society. "When wo have come to ah agreement," explained Professor Rippman/'one of the English, delegates, "tho scheme will be made public and an active campaign . will be hold in the autumn. < "We hopt 'first to get the educational world l interested. It is generally felt that—particularly for the children in elementary schools— a system of simplified spelling would mean an enormous gain, in time. Incidentally it would remove what is thte principal barrier to English becoming universal language."
