The effects of the strike are gradually widening and becoming more .serious. Tho Interstate Coastal Company's wharves present a. deserted appearance .Several companies' gates and premises are cither wholly or partially closed. Tho strike is conducted quietly by both sides. The. companies .state , it is their intention to keep tihe existing staff and wharf hands employed, but will engage no outside labour. The i'ookina finished loading to sail. Jn Sussex street merchants and salesmen are unloading the KakapoV, cargo of Tasmaniaii potatoes. Other companies are doing their best with available hands to handle perishables. In all probability a number of vessels engaged in the'bullion trade will be laid up unless there is a speedy settlement. The Hon. }lr Hughes, and the president and the secretary of the AVharf Labourers' Union .arrive from -Melbourne to-day. HOBART. This Day.
