Dairy Cow Heredity. — —g One oow (states Home and Farm) may produce 1001 Lb of milk with less than 3 per cent, fat in it, and another may yield 701b of milk in the same time that contains 6 per cent fat. There is a difference in the value of these two cows based upon their respective yields. One may have been bred right; she may inherit dairy ability, and is profitable 'because bred and reared for a special purpose?. The fanner must distinguish between two snob cows, and should bo influenced by hereditary, which means to inherit the qualities of ancestors that bare been bred, fed aiul reared right for generations, until dairy qualities—the Ability to convert feed into milk at a profit—is so intensified and pronounced that it is transmitted with certainty. The sires from such a strain of dairy cattle are very nrepotcnt and transmit the ch'aractor- • astics of ancestors. Production is influenced by htoeity. Cows cannot be made to pro- . duce large yields without pood feed and care in liberal quantities, no •matter ho;v well they are bred. But the greater yield and profit comes from the oow possessing a natural tendency to liberal production , through inherited traits. The wise man will always consider the purpose for which the cow is designed bv breeding environment. He will likewise consider heredity in the sire and will not use one from a .. strain of not. producers, -no matter ; how good moividually he may be.
