Dr. Peacock was found guilty of murder of the girl Denies, and wa.s sentenced to death. The prisoner denied that he told Poke (Davies' sweetheart 1 ) that the girl (lied and he .secretly disposed of the body and burned 'the clothes. He declared that lie knew nothing of the whereabouts of Davies after she left the hospital on August 25. He recognised that it would have been better if he had thought less of her secret, and more about himself, and said that he had frankly told the detectives what he knew of the matter.
Hie Chief Justice strongly summed up against prisoner. He said that it was a- particularly d;irigorous and heinous offence winch ciiused the death of the «rirl. ft was a. dreadful menace to the community, It struck at all that was lie-) from the State's point of view in tlhe system of marriage practices.
