LEVIN SCULLING CLUB.
A HANDSOME TROPHY. PROSPECTS AND DIFFICULTIES. Mr Siihiin, president of the re-cently-formed Levin Sculling Club, 'has stated li is .intention of giving the club a twenty guinea cup, to be competed for among the members during this season. It is hoped that by that time the club will have made such progress that the cup may be thrown ope-n as « challenge cup to sail amateur scullers representing any club in N*cw Zealand—with a. proviso that, if possiblo, the matches for the cup should take nlace on , the Horowhenua Late. It has been arranged to have one or both of the single - scull skiffs, which have been built by Mr Nevin for the club, exhibited hanging, from the balcony of the •- Levin. Hotel on Saturday afternoon ■and evening. On Tuesday evening, at the Levin Hotel, a meeting of tilio executive was held, the President in tihe dhair. Those present were Messrs W. Harding, J. Knight. D. Musgrove, and A. J. Harding (lion, secretary). A good deal of routine work was gone through, and , arrangements wore made for opening the sculling season ; . if possible, on Labour Day, October 23rd. Various honorary officers were appointed, subject to their acceptance. Mr D. Musgrove, who has energetically caaiyassed the town, presented a, list of sixty two intending members. In the light of this, prospects look exceedingly .good . At the same time the treasurer points out once more th.it ahsolutely nothing can 'be done unless the necessary £40 is suibscrib©d by the 20th instant at the latest. The secretary has received from Mr F. H. G.. Galvin, secretary of the Star Boating Club, .Wellington, a list of. boats which the club has for sale, and if tho subscriptions to hand by the end bf this month warrant it the club wiP be able to purchase some of these. The boats include one best and best four-oared racing boat (in good condition), one best and best convertible double sculler and pair oar, two clinker convertible senior pairs and double scullers (cox. wainiess) boats, in good order. From tire -secretary of the Star club', Mr Herding has also received a copy of the club's rules for the purpost of assisting the club in the forming of its rules. The secretary, furthermore, has the option for two racing boats-built by Mr Nevin.
