Rear Admiral Schley u of the United States navy, who was prominent in the Spanish-American war, dmpped dead in a club in New York. Rear-Admiral Schley sank Cerveras's fleet in Satiago harbour in July, 1898. He was born in Maryland in 1839, served through the Civil war, and in the Pacific, China, Japan, Corea, the "West Coast of Africa, and South America. In 1884 he commanded tlie expedition to the Arctic Avliicli rescued Lientenant Greely. ENGLISH M.P. The death is announced of Sir John Brigjg, M.P., aged 77. (The late Sir John Bragg was a well-known worsted spinner, who represented the Keigbly Division of the West Hiding of Yorkslrrie in tihe j Houso of Commons in the Liberal interest since 1895.)
