STIRRING AND VARIED SCENISS

[PBR iPREBS ASSOC VTMJN.] AUCKLAND, September 27. Mr Geo. Vincent, of the Auckland Veterans' Home, and formerly of th© Bengal Artillery, died on Monday from heart trouble at the age of 81. Deceased was born at C'orfe Castle, Dorsetshire, in 1830. He onlistecll at the age of 25 years in the East India Company's joining the Fourth Company in - tihe Fourth - Battalion of Bengal Artillery.
Deceased was at Meerut when tflie Mutiny broke out. after the Sepoys there had revolted, and made from t'liorc for Delhi. He marched into Delhi with his battery, a distance of 34 miles, and was continuously fighting around and in Delhi until its capture. At tllic fall of Delhi ho was moved to the Himalayas with a mountain battery manned by the Bengal Artillery to crush out a flickering insurrection, and with Colonel Have's column (associated with six other columns) marched into the King of Owle's territory to suppress the fugitive insurgents that 'Lad assembled as refugees from tiho neighbouring provinces. After peace had been restored the Bengal military forces were disbanded. and Vincent took his discharge, returning to England, where lie joined the Royal Artillery until the completion of his service. He was awarded the Mutiny medal, with the. clasp of Delhi, and the Imperial and old age pons ions. He emigrated to Now Zealand in 1809. living first at Charleston, on the West Coast, where he remained at the gold diggings for 32 years. He entered the Veterans' Home over seven years ago.
