Mixing Lime with Manure
Mr H. W. Lawrence, the wellknown agricultural chemist, says that lime should never he mixed with any organic manure containing nitrogenous matter, as the lime will expel the nitrogen, which is the most valuable constituent of organic manures. Lime should he applied to the land some weeks before the organic manure, so as to allow it to be slaked and washed into the soil by rain. Gypsum, whdoh is sulphate of lime (a .neutral foody) can be mixed with cow manure to advantage, as it helps to conserve the valuable nitrogenous matter.
