The camera was set going, andwhen the lioness was within twentyfive yards a shot was fired, but without effect. Mr Hem men I continued turning the handle until the lioness was out of fopus. He expected to see the animal fall, but instead of this she steadily advanced, the dazed photographer being unable to move. Tt was only wlipn the lioness was within fifteen feet of Mi Homment that she was brought down by a shot and fell three feet from the eamera.
