MR LEGER REPLIES TO "THE SWAMP."
To the EditorSir, —Your ' correspondent " The Swamp" is still under the thirtyyea r-olri delusion that Socialism means placing everything in a heap ■and divide up. Let him drop '' Dead wood Dick" and food on more substantial fare. Dividing up is .liol Socialism, but Anarchist Communism; and communism is away in the dim distance. Socialism is approaching, and is to all appearances inevitable. The trusts will worry the people into it, for self protection There is no cant or sentiment about Socialism; it is a matter oi business and industrial development. It is not intended to dospoil or divide, but to stop both. It woul' step a few individuals from sharing off the majority that wjliich they now do without their consent. " The Swamp," like many more evidently lias been doing a. good deal of sharing-out" and very little sliar-ing-iii—hence his trouble. Through the currency and land laws alone the people are skinned of millions yearly. The -grain trust, coal trust, shipping trust, sugar trust, and others take many more millions. In view of the above, it is clear that, the era of the hesitating, compromising and temporising politician will soon come to an end. Socialism is not necessarily against personal property so long as it is not used as ameans of- extracting money unfairly out of other people's pockets. — Yours etc., H. LEGER, Weraroa, Levin. Sept. 9, 1911.
