ALLEGED ESPIONAGE

Tho German Schultz, who was charged with espionage, has beeoi committed for trial. Bail was refused. Mr Dull, a solicitor, amd Mr Tarran, a tradesman, testified to tho fact that Schulty represented) himself to be a correspondent to an important Gorman newspaper, wind promised them £50 per month for their services and ultimately a permanent £1000 per annum. He asked Mr Duff to obtain information from Plymouth district, and Mr Tarran from Portsmouth, Southampton, Woolwich, and Chatham. Hβ told Mr Duff if ho was unable .to answer the questions ho must say so, and_ that tbo Government must see the information before it was published. Hence tho need for accuracy. Ho intended to depart, leaving Mr Duff and Mr Tarran to send the infornvation. He received money from a man named Tohler. tit Ostend. and a cipher code, which was frequently used, was found in his possession.
