DEATH OF MR. T. E. TAYLOR
P VSSED AWAY QUIETLY LAST EVENING.
fPKR PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, July 27. Mr T. E. Taylor, M.P., M<ayor of Christchnrdh, nnd .member for Christc'lmrch North, died at 5.15 this evening. The whole of his family was present and the end was expected' at any moment. At 4.20 p.m. there was no further change reported, <md 'lie died (as stated above) at 5.1 5 p.m.
Among the farewell notes and messages to bis friends was tlx* following to the Rev. .John Dawson, gen end secretary of tho New Zealand Alliance:—" 1911 is our year of emancipation if we are true to God and our opportunities." During the day he was visited by Mr Cole, one of his business partners, and to him the dying man said: "Cole, they call us fanatics. But national prohibition is worth living-for and worth dying I'or." A message for Labour was given to Mr Tsitt: " Isitt. this is a lovdv country. Tell inv labour friends that they have a divine chance here if they will only recognise tho religious element and lift the movement to its highest plane." ( The funeral will take place on Sunday afternoon, and will be a civic funeral. THE LATE MR TAYLOR. FETLDTNG, This Day. Much interest was taken here Yesterday in the condition of Mr T. E. Taylor. Great svmpathy and regret are felt to-day at his death, which is the one tonic of conversation.
