LEVIN STOCK SALES. DRAGGING SALES, The sales at Levin yesterday were of a dragging character, and farmers were diffident in purchasing owing to the shortage, of feed. A farmer front Koputaroa told a Chronicle reporter that ho had never been so short of feed since he had been in the district, and it was useless to buy. "There have been plenty of men about." lie said, "who would bo glad to buy, but they don't know where to look for feed." A sharp rise in prices is expected in six weeks. At Messrs Dalgcty's yards one line of 200 really tip-top llom■liey ewes, on behalf of Mr Kirkley, of'Manakan, fetched lls ikl. They were bought by .Air He-van. There was no improvement in the price of store wethers, hut the firm cleared practically all they .had in the yards. Mr Newman, ex-Mayor of Wellington, 'bought a line of wethers for his farm at Kopntaroa. There was a fair yarding of cattle which sold fairly well, and everything was quitted, bar a few cows, at saitsfactory prices. Eat cows sold about on a par with late rates. A line of steers on account of Mr T. Bevan were bought by Mr Death, of Otaki. Messrs Abraham and Williams yarded 2,500 sheep and 250 head of cattle. Bidding was rather inclined to drag, hut the greater portion entered changed hands. There was very little- demand for fat sheep. Cattle dragged simply because people liave not got the feed, and this statement was borne out by a Manakau farmer, who said "The stuff is cheap, but some of us are at our wits end for feed." DALGETY AXD COMPANY Report: We .had a full yarding of sheep, also a good yarding of cattle. Both sheep and cattle were dull of sale under the hammer, but wo quitted practically everything before t'h? end of day at the following prices : — Slieop.—Good Ronmey ewes, in lamb, lis fkl, 1 Is (id : low conditioned ewes, in lamb, 8s; 2-tooth ewes, in lamb. 10s: 2-tooth wethers. 12s Gd, lis 3d. 10s 2d: woolly lambs. 0s 4d: old rains, 5s Hd ; fat ewes 13s. AND COMPANY Report: Porkers are very scarce at the present time, and consequently are demanding very good values indeed. We have also to report a very much better demand for store pigs, and prices wore much butter to-day than on the occasion of our last report. Sows in pig are in good demand, and we recommend clients to send in any entries they may ■have into sale as they are assured of meeting with a very ready sale.
