When the teams were drawn it was found that instead of a team of Pakeha agaiint Maoris it wa.s a pakeha team against n pieliald team. The All-Comer* kicked off and followed ii]) in earnesl. Osborne and Huckmnu altemplcrl runs, but were quietened by Gobo. Some passing was attempted by Gobo, but his braves wiTi.' not all alive. Strong p!.ay ensued for about ten minutes; strength, in fact, was more apparent than science. Movis at last got the ball muler his '"'wing." and was making a fast run ; it was all the t : .\a in China to a penny orange that •::e would secure a try: but it was not to be. as-Bick McLennan, probably startled into pace by the yells ~f s'oine native Indv barrackers, shot

Movis made an e:ort to cai'ry the ball, but wa.s soon bromht (:!> the- ground by Hunt. Perri, who is like an eel, wriggled, twisted and. dodged his way with the I-.ill back to the All-Comers' quarters. Kaurati and Gobo followed up and assisted Perri, who managed t ) carry tine ball over the All-Com-cvs' line but the score was disallowed by the referee, as the ba.ll had' bowl over the side line. Tho AII- - at this stage put forth great vigour. Bilderbock. Smith (Mricky). 1 ,, . Muckinan and. Kennedy strongly
