Tho Foxton people, ho was informed, were well satisfied) with the stream and place •fhat had been fixed on. Ho (the chairman) stated Shannon's proportion. Councillor Steplienson said ho had accompanied tho party. He was of opinion that Foxton would go in for the scheme whether Shannon joined or not. He was informed by the Mayor of Foxton that a fair proportion would bo for Koxton to bear two-thirds of tho cost and Shannon one-third. Ho thought the estimate of an expert should he obtained, and this he thought was tho first step. Me- was in favour of wieihi a scheme being managed by a local body,: but if the ratepayers thought otherwise the County Council could act. Councillor A'onn said it was a small meeting to deal with a largo question. Ho thought that they should appoint delegates to meet thoso from Koxton and apportion tho cost. Ho thought tho cost would run into a penny or a penny farthing in the L'. and considered, tho cost for the town would bo about £8000; and if the suburbs were taken in, £10,000. He informed the meeting that tho preliminary survey would require to bo guaranteed. He thought tho council would' require a guarantee for preliminary expenses in ease a loan, failed. Tho gross value of Shannon would be about £78,000, and if some of the parts on tho fringe uore cut out the value would be about £70,000.
