UNF A IR COMPETITION
To the Editor. Sir, —1 n speaking with Mr Lew's, nl Thompson, Lewis and Company t wiho ».is in Levin low days ago, I was miiprised to loam from him , that the liotelkecpcr at Levin, who by I,lie tva.v, makes his own aerated waters, has on (oral into competition wi(jh liis (inn by by soliciting trade I'ntiu liii 1 shopkeepers also. Mr Lewis inl'm-med me that he did not mind lair competition, .'hut this hotclkeeper, ho seriously assures me is doing all he knows by cutting prices, so a.s to secure the trade. Xow, sir, as a resident of this growing township, I hope that the public will mot encourage anything that has a tendency to kill a, local industry. This' firm of Thompson. Lewis and Company purchased a freehold, a«nd erected a "factory here some few years ago, to enable the residents to obtain a orated waters at a reasonable rate, and although they have never had the support of either of the two local hotels, they certainly expected the support of the shopkeepers, and T trust that when the public are purchasing aerated waters from the shops they will insist upon getting the ma nil fact u res of the people wih'o make this their sole business. Surely the licensee of the Levin Hotel ought to be satisfied with tihle profit made from his hotel, without entering into competition with oth'er trades.-- Yours, etc., A WRLLW-ISI-TTCR. OF THE DTSTIUCT.
