Quite a treat is in store for local playgoers on Wednesday and Thursday next, when the above combination will commence their season. For variety and refinement this combination would ho hard to beat. Mr Tarn McLean, the'bass of the party, gave several excellently rendered solos, "Simon the. Cellerer" and "Drinking." in the second half of the programme, being his 'best numbers. Messrs Cameron and Ferguson pleased the audience wit!) their items, as also did Mr Edward Headlem with his monologue items. Dave .Smith, the well-known middle-weight boxer, who was the only man able to end. the triumphal tour of the American fighters I'apke, Thompson, and Clabby in Australia, received a splendid reception. Smith is one of tlio most scientific boxers Xew Zealand has produced, and his woirk last evening gave the audience a good idea of his skill and judgment. The. Xow Zealander possesses brains, a,u.tl he uses thorn in his boxing contests—to the. disadvantage of his opponents. "Dave" gave a mast interesting exhibition of b.ill-puehing, shadowsparring. slapping and numerous other exercises that help to fit a pugilist for his encounters in the ring.
