REPRESENTATIVE MATCH. MAXAWATU (8). v. HORO- - (0). This match was played at Levin on Saturday before a- large attendance. The ground was in good condition, but a, high wind militated against good; play. Tn fact tho game was anything but a good exhibition of football, and at times it degenerated into a. scramble. The back play of King elicited much uiikiv'onrable comment, but tho fact was that King was badly hurt in the initial stages of the game, and really should have- retired. After the conclusion of the game he was 1 medically attended. The teams lined up as follows:— HOROWHTCXUA: King. Lewer X. Winiata Hen are M. Winiata. Pitahira. Pirinii J. Hopa Peed Wilson W. Winiata Gobo Reihana Martin. Ropatn MAXAWATU; Hughes C'odyre Stalker Briseoe Waldegra ve. 0' Connor Ongley M. Carroll . V. Carroll Arnold Baigenfc Harkness Hicks Grey Trevena Carrol kicked off for Manawatu against the wind, and with the sun in their faces. M. Winiata kicked well down the field, the ball going out near the Manawatu 25. Some hot work took place in the visitors 25, which Ongley relieved with akick to half way. Up to this stage Mnnawnt.u hookers got the 'best of the deal in the scrum. Stalkor took a mark for Manawatu in their 25, and shortly afterwards for M. Carrol being off-side X. Wiiviata took a shot at goal which failed.. The 'home team continued to press, and Hoipa put in a good kick. At the 25 Marton took a free-kick which gave no advantage, and play continued in Manawatu territory. Off-side against Marton gave a freei kick to Manawatu, and O'Coiwior kicked out. at the 25. T.hio visitors then, led by Carrol Bros., took play to the Horowhonua end, but off-side I bv one of the forwards spoiled the effort, and Marton kicked well down j to the visitors' line, where a. scrum look place in front of the goal. Manawatu sot the ball from the scrum. Ongley passing to Waldegrave, who booted to midfield. hut off-side again spoiled the effort. Carrol took a good mark near m'n\field, and the ball went out at the half-way flag. A splendid dash by the Manawntu forwards took the ball right up to the Horowhenua. end, where Hopa saved with a fine kick to touch amid the applause of the spectators. Stalker's love for the ball gave temporary relief to Horowhenua. Manawatu coining back to the attack. Thev continued to press, until Marton Winiaita, took a mark on the 'inc. Walter AYiniata, bv the aid of bhe wind, finding the line at half-way. Again Manawatu came to the attack and almost trot over the line, hut the hall was got awav to midfi?ld. where Hooa was off-side, and O'Connor's kick went out near the local 25. Stalker's love of the ball lost what looked like a certain t rv. The Mnnawatu hookers were getti.njt the -ball witii monotonous regularity, hut the elements against them their backs could not get going. Carrol leaded a loose rush to the Horowhonun end. Pirinii iust ing in the nick of time. From a scrum on the Black 25 O'Connor hind a shot at goal, which proved abortive. Plav was taken to mid-field. Martin broke invnv on the half way and streaked for the Green's line. He kicked gentlv over the fu.ll-back's bend, hut Stalker enmrht him up and kicked the ball dead. Play was taken to mid-field, where from a scrum Hopa. got off-side and Hushes Iftid a shot at o- {>a l from Irilf-way. A free-kick to the Blacks for obstruction on the nart of Carrol, and the ba'l drifted to the Green end. A free-kick to Manawatu took plav back to midfield. whe.ro Walter Winiata took a shot at goal, but Carrol ehartrod the kick down. The local full-back saved nieelv for Horowhemna. and sent ihp ball to Hushes, who found the line in mid-field. Lower then broke away, and ran up to the Manawatu line, 'but he gave a forward pass to X'epia and , Manawatu forwards took play back to haifFrom a scrum Ongley passed to Waldegrave. who found the line near the Blacks' end, hint a. freekick brought relief. This, however, was only of a temporary character, the visitors again coming to the attack. Plav was subsequentlv delaved through Carrol being knocked out. Manawatu were, now pressing severely, and almost trot over the line, but another free-kick for off-side staved off the attack for a short time, and play was taken to nud-fiekl. Half-time then arrived, with the scores. Horowhenua ... 0 Manawatu ... 0
On the resumption Manawatu a,t mice took up the attack and experienced liar<l linos in not getting over. TJnt Lewer saved at a critical moment, and. dashing down the line carried play into tho visitors 25. Hopa made a 'lash over the lino but failed to ground, the hall, and Ma.wawa.tii forced. Tine home team were now infusing a lot of dash into the game, and, cheered on 'by their supporters, they made things hum for Manawatu. Carrol .started a. rush but Hopa kicked nicely over his head into touch. The'home team then made a splendid dash down field, and Lower almost got over. From a scruni near the Manawatu 25 Marton Winiata picked up and put in a fine run, passing to Pitihinri, who in turn passed to Xapia to Herari, who just missed scoring. Horowhenua continued to play with great vigour, and at this stage pressed s?vorelv. Subsequently the. ball went to the other end where King mulled. Henare macfc a goad rush down field, but nothing culminated. Then Manawatu came with a rush, Carrol and Waldegravo at the head, and O'Connor got over the line aiiid raced for the 'hall, but Lewer 'kickdead. At this stage Marton Winiata was putting in a lor of good work for his side by getting in a lot of shorUkioks to touch? Carrol again led a rush awl kicked, over the line, but Henare forced down. At last Stalker scored a try and Hughes kicked, the ball hitting the cross bar. Maivawatu ... 3 Horowhenua, ... 0 For off-side Hughes took a kick from half way. but it proved ineffective The ball was kicked, over the Ma.Miwatu line, and Xepia touched down, .but was off-side, and Manawatu kicked to half-way. For off-side Hughes had another'shot a,t hailf-way, but the oval failed to find the uprights. Play travelled from end to end, Hopa being conspicuous with som« fine clashes for Horowh'fmua. the ball eventually finding the line, through Ongley, in the HorowVnna 25. Play was now fast and furious, Manawatu goinir near scoring several times. Once O'Connor raced over the line, but the 'ball went out of touch, Eventually Stalker got the line, a,nd scored a t-rv. and , ; taking the kick he fructified his success.

THE AMALGAMATION SCHEME
A meeting of representatives of tho Manawatu Rugby Union and tlio Horowhenua Rugby Union mcb at the Chronicle Office, Levin, on Saturday night, for the purpose of discussing and passing resolutions concerning the- amalgamation scheme for playing certain representative, in atf.ii es. Messrs Pawson, McMnnaway, MeWilliam and Gibbons were present on behalf of Mnnawatu inul Messrs Procter, Barge and Kingi Tahiwi represented the local Union. After the objects had been put before tho meeting the following resolutions wero passed:— Proposed by Mr Pawson, seconded by Mr Procter, That this committee of the two unions approve of the amalgamation for playing Taranaki Union, Auckland, and Wellington; by Mr Gibbons, seconded 'by Mr Procter. That all monies accruing from inatclios of the comhiiied unions be paid into a separate fund to bo operated upon by two trustees solely on behalf of the amalgamation." Proposed by Mr Pawson, seconded by Mr Burge, in theeve.ntfc of a tour, each union will, if Jiecessary, contribute, an equal amount to finance such tour. Proposed by Mr Burge, seconded by Mr Gibbons, That one year's notice be given by either union of tho termination of tlio amalgamation. Proposed by Mr Burge, seconded by Mr Gibbons, That a three-filths majority of tho committee must vote in favour of sending away a touring team. Proposed by Mr Burge, seconded by Mr Gibbons, Tn the event of the amalgamation being terminated any funds in the hands of the trustees shall bo equally divided between the unions.
