The Licenses Reduction Board is closing seven further hotels in Melbourne. Since the Board was created 002 'hotels lmve been closed, and compensation, amounting to £194,989, has been paid. At a meeting of the Board', the chairman .made ft comparison of the system with local option, and pointed out that, in a similar period under the latter, 'New South Wales closed three hundred n.ndl thirty eight hotels. :It was estimated by 1914 Victoria would ck/?;:> 800, and New South Wales 425. Under local option there was a tendency, he added, for overstocked districts to vote continuance.
