A letter is to hand from Councillor H. 13. Francej criticising The Chronicle's animadversions upon the council's rejection of the public baths scheme, and incidentally shedding liglit upon some of the council's financial positions. Itwill appear in to-morrow's Chronicle.

Wellington : Dwyer, Organ, Furley, Stewart, Smith. Padmer, Brotlherton, Wilson, Bennett, Collins and Clapson.
On Friday next, 30th June, the Levin Ladies' Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A. will be giving an entertainment to the association and its friends. Pleasant memories of tHie entertainment given by the auxiliary last year still linger, and a big muster of the public is practically assured for next week's function.
At Manakau, last Wednesday afternoon, the mortal remains 'of the late Edward Bevau, senior, were committed to their last resting place, in the sunny knoll whereon stands the private cemetery of MiThomas Bevan, senior, iand wherein all the deceased, descendants of the old gentleman are laid. The officiating minister at Wednesday's funeral was the Rev. Mr Smith, of Otaki Anglican Church, and there were about fifty mourners in the cortege, assembled, from all parts of the district. The coffin was conveyed on a four-wheled vehicle drawn by the Hui Mai football team arrayed in full football uniform; the late Mr E. Bevan having been a member of that club, the members of it were desirous of doing 3iiim special honour, and it was resolved that this poiiild be shown best by paying him the tribute above described.
