Members of the country fire brigades threaten to strike in a body, as a protest against the want of proper equipment and non-payment of remuneration. Numbers 'have alrelady resigned. The secretary of the Fire Brigades' Board declares that in more than fifty per cent, of conntry towns brigades, with present- appliances, are absolutely unable to cope with any serious emergency, while the situation menaces life and property. The pressing need : is for the Government to take over and place the brigades on n proper footing.
