Ho .stated that he had been grossly insulted on the bowling green during the season by a certain member, and in all his wide experience of societies and clubs, Otaki was the only place where lie had been subjected 1 to such nn< gentlemanly treatment. Mr Monekton -thereupon left the chad r. This brought Mr Byron Brown to his feet. He asked' Mr Monekton to name tlie offending member, and Mr Monekton replied that is was Mr Brown himself. Thiis led to a painfuj scene. Mr Brown absolutely denied Mr Monekton's accusation. He solemnly declared lie lhad never linsnlted Mr Monekton or Mrs Monekton otn the "bowling green on any occasion, and asked l Mr Monekton ito state the specific nature of his charge, and' substantiate it.
