In all, there were fifty fancy dresses on the floor of Phillips's skating rink, at last night's carnival. The best lady skater was adjudged to be 'Mrs Gardener, whose costume represented "The Order of the Bath." Smith won the prize for the' most original Qostume> (a hobble skirt, >a Jingo hiat, and a small umbrella). Miss James won the similar prize allotted to the ladies. She was garbed in "the Maori harem skirt from the King Country." -
