In all, there were fifty fancy dresses on the floor of Phillips's skating rink, at last night's carnival. The best lady skater was adjudged to be 'Mrs Gardener, whose costume represented "The Order of the Bath." The best gentleman's filiating display was adjudged to be Mr .Robinson, of Ftoxton, who skated as a swagsman. His comic twists 'and' turns were highfly popular. The prizes for the best couple were gained by Miss Walker and Mr.Mitchell, both of Foxton. Mr Mitchell was garbed in the stars aild M '«s Walker as Folly. Mr ®. iW. J. Smith won the prize for the' most original Qostume> (a hobble skirt, >a Jingo hiat, and a small umbrella). Miss James won the similar prize allotted to the ladies. She was garbed in "the Maori harem skirt from the King Country." -
