The annual Wellington .Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union was. opened here to-day. In the course of his address the President, Air J. G. Wilson, said that "We bad hoped that this Parliament 'would settle once and for all the right of the leaseholder to convert ibis title to that of the freehold, 'but that will be again passed over, and it will remain for the next Parliament t<) pass such a measure. This will mean that we must keep this policy —which is bound up with the union —before the public, and will entail further sacrifice of our tinre aid money to secure. Wo are, however as strong as ever upon the pui it, and I hope willing voices will Lp raised by volunteers in the caur.e." After dealing at length with farming matters Mr Wilson said that the companies which wei'e connected with the union, had all done we!! The Mutual Insurance Company had a successful year, and the diractouvs were considering whether thoy would extend to insure stacks. Farmers complained very much of the charges on this class of risk. The Farmers' Distributing Company had had a 'very profitable year. Mr Hunt (who has shown great capacity and tact an. the management), had been able to fihow a handsome and increasing profit each half-year.
