Bee=Keeping for Women.
■ - <D At the recent Ontario- bee-keep-ers' convention, a paper by Mies M Bobson, of Tlderton, Out., on the subject, "Can women win an Apiary?" attracted more than ordinary interest. In speaking of the advantages of bee-keeping for women, she said :— "N'ow for some of the advantages for a woman in bee-keeping. In the first place, unlike poultry raising, all the work can be done in fine weather—in fact, has to be clone. Even in summer, except during the busiest season, there will be a fair margin of time for other pursuits, and all the winter is practically free. The work is healthy, taking the woman into the open air, and keeping her constantly in touch with the great work of nature. Tt will yield a good profit for a comparatively small outlay. The dhief capital req-uiirod is brains and persistence; and, perhaps more- important than all. the work is interesting, even absorbing. Can you imagine anything more suggestive (,f peace and contentment- than to stand in the. midst of a beo yard— one's own heo yard—the sun beating down warmly, the hair heavy tn'th the fragrance of blossoms, .sunshine glinting on flashing wings, ami t)ho air full of a steady hum which rises to a subdued roar? Then it .a, indeed, that wo know what a goodly tiling it is to he alive. "Even for a woman who does not wish to go into bee-keepin.e; on n large .scale, it can in most localities be made a source of quite a little income—especially desirable wlkmv there is a largo family of girls, j,s well as providing a wholesome sweet for the table. T have in mind two friends who keep from ten to a dozen hives, wliidi on an average net them about 11 dollars (211) a year. Thev winter out-skle, oul leave the packing round the hives all summer, thus saving toniro.'vos much heavy lifting. 'Tt is emphatically trio that all the work necessary to he dune wtli hoes during flic warm pcio:] of the year can In , done ir Pun- v.o;ither.
