Bebrion, a Parisian diamond merchant, accused. a,n alleged English adventuress, who occupied a room in a hotel .next to his, of stealing three million francs (£120,000) worth of jewels. Tt is believed that the woman swallowed the stones. She is now under close arrest. A d rim ken peasant attacked his four children with a knife. The wife interposed with a hatchet, and a desperate .struggle followed. The wife received a fatal stab, but swung the axe and killed the man.
