Roiiayne, general manager of the New Zealand railways, wa* asked by a reporter to-'lay il' lie had any remark to make coifcerning tinallegations of espionage which have been made by railway servants against the department. lie stated lie knew nothing of any such thing, and could make no statement of a more particular nature. The H-a.ilway Department employed inspectors to see that the guards and ticket collectors did their work properly, hut they were all know n, a in!, there was little difference between their employment and that, of the inspectors in the tram service.
