Fattening Pigs.
If you wish to fatten your porlt rapidly, do not give great quanti-. ties of rich food at one time, but give a regular feed of a small quantity which they will eat up clean, but as soon as they leave .any food in (the troughs do not feed again until they have finished tth'eir 'breakfast or dinner, as the ease may be. Then the supply should be reduced, which will leave them sufficiently hungry at meal times to relisb what is given them. Too much food' at the commencement of fattening is as bad for pigs as improper food, a stunted growth being the- noticeable result in both cases. It costs almost as much, if not more, to fatten a stunted pig than it is worth. In winter a large amount of vitality is expended in resisting the cold, and an increase of food is required to sustain the system in a 'healthy condition. At first feed lightly on meal. A good dairy meal or Indian meal or barley makes an excellent feed to begin: with. . Flesh is the goal to be aimed! - at, and the food should contain much of fattening materials.
