EVENTS IN SHANNON. (Chronicled by our Resident Representative.■> LAWN TENNIS. The Lawn Tennis courts presented: a lively scene on Saturday afternoon, when a party of Levin visitors tried conclusions with the local players. The games throughout were contested with spirit, although the utmost good will prevailed at all times. The Levinites secured, a well-earned victory. During the afternoon the visitors were entertained at a lunch; provided by the local cliiib and presided over iby Mrs Lauirvig. The following are the scores, Levin players being mentioned first in each case:— MEN'S SINGLES. Harper lost to Dunckley. 5—7. Melntvro boat Schmidt, 7—5. Cntfioicl heat Mitchell, 6—l. ■Riehter beat Judd, 6—3^ Hughes lost to Murray, 5—7. Knight 'beat Gardiner, (I—2. MEN'S DOUBLES. Harper and MoTntyre, lost to Dunekley avid Schmidt, I—G. Hiohter and Outfield beat Mitchell ami Judd, 6-3. Hushes and Knight boat Murray and Gardiner, 6—4. LADIES 'SINGLED. Mrs Gardener lost to Mrs Doidlge, 4-6. Miss Wilson beat Miss Mason, G—l Miss Eit/.horbort lost to Miss Dunckley, 6-5. Mrs Civtfiold lost to Mrs Laurvig, 6-1. LADIES' DOUBLES. Mrs Gardener and. Miss Wilson heat Mrs Doidjro and Miss MasM, 6-3. COMBINED DOUBLES. McTntyro and Miss Wilson boat Schmidt and Miss Mason, 6—l. Outfield and Miss Fitzherhert beat V Mitchell and Miss Lnurvig, G—l. Totals; Lovin, 10 sets, (i 7 gninos; Shannon, G sets, G5 games. Mr Jeffreys, who has resided . in Shannon for a number of years (and lias carried on business as a blacksmith) is leaving with his family for Levin. Mr and Mrs Jeffreys will bo much missed. They will leave us with all good wishes for thoir future, welfare.
