EVENTS IN SHANNON. (Chronicled by our_ Resident Representative.'* The long-talked of track between Shannon and Eke kahuna is to lie an accomplished faet at last. A survey party has been put on at the Eketahnna .end and when a survey has been made 1 tibe track will be gone on with. This track when finished will he of great value as a highway between the two coasts. It will also make prospecting much easier. It is a well known fact that there is a good coal seem somewhero in tho ranges near Shannon. There is also tho possibility of making tho mountain tops a health, resort in the summer. Mr Field has had much going and coming to get this work started, but as usual, his persistence is too mucihi for tho red tape department. Mr Field is also pushing tho electrical scheme and it is probable there will .bo another survey of the streams at an early date.
Miss Sylvester is to stay with us after all. When it was announced that she had resigned it was mooted that a deputation of parents should wait 011 her and ask her to reconsider but fortunately this is now not necessary. Miss Sylvester is a very popular teacher, and has tho *ull confidence of the parents as well its the respect and affection of the children. BOWLS. For tho champion singles for the Gunning medal, Esson agaiYist Roach Roach won by 22 points to 12. Ho has only two more games to win to be able to hold the medal which he won last season. The folio wig match was played:— Lind (skip). Voysey, H. Butt, Galland ; Rtophenson (skip), Hensman, Mitchell, 01>en. Lind's team won by 31 t:> 14.
