The House of Commons rejected Lord Casflereagh's motion to reduce tlio criminal estimates for Ireland as a protest at tlio prejudiced administration of tlio law. Sir E. Carson supported Mr Redmond and declared that a campaign was being engineered to .show that Ireland was inhabited by uncivilised savages, fighting each other lor the love of God. lit. Hon. E. Birrell protested at the attempt to show that Ireland was seething with crime.
