At tlie meeting of the Marton branch of the Farmers' Union. Mr Morrison (Halcombo) introduced the subject of tlio regulating of bhe price off oliaff. Ho stated that it had been thought desirable to ih-old a meeting on t>l ie same linos as last year. Last year's moot-ins ,liad proved very beneficial, and the' majority of farmers secured a bettor price by (holding tlioir grain and chaff as advised by the Union. Even the announcement of the present meeting had affected the prico of ohnff, it having risen in the last day or two. He considered that there ought, to he some .system of getting reliable market reports from the South Island. The present reports could not he accepted as being accurate. In ihis opinion there would be a run on chaff this season. As regards wheat, he thought tire present the worst time to sell and advocated holding on to supplies. Mr McElroy (Feilding) stated that all knew th'o merchants tried to keep down the prices. They obtained control of a quantity of grain and controlled the market. The following resolution was carried: "That, in the opinian of til ins meeting, weekly reports should he obtained from the secretaries of the leading branches in the South Island and Auckland, and that such reports be published." After discussion, it was a"rood that prices should he fixed as follows: Prime ahflff £4 per ton, wheat 3s 9d per bushel, oats 2s 9d.—Star.
