"War to the Knife."
OH A K'UX K\S NEWSPAPERS.
Ohakuiw has broken out in a fresh place. It's latest achievement lies in the possession of no less than three ntMvspapers, and something approaching a newspaper war seems imminent. Tiho Daily News is the outcome of a Town Hoard Commissioner's displeasure with the Ohakune Times over the alleged non publication of certain proceedings. The now onterprise consists of a modest typewritten .sheet, containing local paragraphs, and is posted m conspicuous places for the enlightenment of all and sundry. At the 'bottom there is a reminder that the editor is prepared to take orders for job printing.
Hard -upon the trail of the Daily Xews followed the Ghakmie Truth, which may also be perused gratis upon the same notice board on which appears the rival Daily News. Tho name of the Truth editor is not disclosed, but an unmistakeable "sporting" touch runs in the literary scheme, and no doubt many readers have an inward cognisance of his identity. We have takon the liberty of t.v. We have taken the libertp of reproducing some delightful gems from yesterday's issue of the Truth : We havo it on good authority that one of the Town Board Commissioners contemplates matrimony. Mr Tim Tracey left by this morning's express for Hnwke's Bay to tako part in the Tennis Tournament. We hoar that Mr Tracey and Miss Dumont Mwentry have been draiwn to play together in the Combined Handicap. We understand that the opposition coadu beat Hoddle's butcher's cart by a wheel in the Raetihi Pony Trot.
A dead Maori was found this morning at Karioi. "Hard luck for the reputation of Ohakune." Joe Cody has had ibis hair cut. Special to Truth—Raetihi, 3 p.m.: Two logs burning at Raetihi. Great excitement prevails. t How long the strife will continue is a matter of interesting conjecture, but there is a feeling that something must go bust" in the stress of the competition. The Ohakune Times .still arrives at our (Waimarino Call) office, nnd appeals somehow to be equal to weathering the"storm raging around it.
