At two o'clock yesterday morning a fire occurred in a building in Bride street, owned by J. Routley, "of Wollinpcton, and occupied hy Mrs Gosson, of the Golden Grid dining rooms, and F. Sako, stationer. The stock of the latter was completely destroyed and the dining-rooms wore gutted. The building was so badly damaged that it will have to be robuilt. A eliop next door owned by Wood, of New Plymouth, and occupied by E. Parrott, a mercer, had a vory narrow esca.pe. The stock had to be removed. The insurances are: Ron tley's (building). £300 in the State office: Wood's (building). £325 in the Victoria office ; Parrott (stock) £400 in the Standard ; Sako's (stock) £200 in the New Zealand office; Gosson. £60 (furniture), "E2O (.stock); in the Guardian office. Council's photographer's shop adjoining Vnvrofct's was slightly damaged.

NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Bush fires in Okato district yo.sterday did much sweeping over a largo area of land. E. Tooke, a settler on the Oxford road, lost his house and farm 'building. They were insured for £100 in the South British office. Mrs Larkins lost her house and the contents. The latter was insured in the South British for £50. Frank Sole lost his house. It is believed that it was insured in the Statq office. Cowling lost his house and its contents. The insurances are £100 in the South British. A bridge over Stoney river, on Sanders road, was partly destroyed.
