Finally an interpreter was found oo miles away, who interviewed tho man ovor the telephone. Tho latter said Mint tho anchors refused to hold at Balla Balla. The captain put k> sea, but iho wind blew tlie sails awav.
The vessel began to roll and tlie cargo shifted. The crew lost control of the ship, which drifted, seas breaking; ovor her. She rolled ba.'lly. They tried to lower the lifeboat, which had boon neglected, but tho dnvit,s wore rusted, and, they were unable In shift them. Tlie ship turned turtle and he, the third mate, and conk were thrown clear. They saw the Iceol up for a few minutes and then the vessel sank.
The three survivors started swimming, but after throe hours a tremendous wave overwhelmed his mates.
He kept on swimming and roached a coral reef after eight hours, and remained there two and a half days. Four boats pnssod before he attracted attention, and during the time he bad been without food, water, or sleep, and was completely exhausted.
No trace has been found of tho rest of the crew.
