LEVIN STOCK SALES. BIG YARDINGS. There wore big yardings at tho I/eyin Stock Sales yesterday, and considering the heavy ram of tho morning the attendances were good. At Messrs Dalgety's "yards in the earlier hours of the da ; v buyers were not so numerous as is usually the case, and this is attributed to the rain.. But as the weather cleared the ■attendances swelled, and bidding was keen throughout. Stock, m these yards sold at, ordinary rates; if anything lambs were easier. Sheep fetched good, prices. Nearly all the stock was bought by local_ huyeis. Messrs Abraham and Williams had an* extra heavy yarding of stock Their new pens were completed and all were filled. Prices were slightly easier, this being attributed to the dry weather. The firm had nice pens of rape lambs which fetched 10s fid to Us each. There was a. full yarding of cattle, winch sold on ,n. par with', late rates. . Altogether they yarded some 4000 sheep and 1550 cattle. THE LEVIN ATTOTTONEERTNG COMPANY report on their usual sale of pigs md poultry at Levin -yesterday There was a good l yarding of wiVs. prime porkers coming forward in excess of advertised numbers. Tho market was not quite so brisk as ait hist sale. This is no doubfc due to +ihe fact that the provisions of the Slaughtering Act are being carried oult more stringently than formerly, and buvers were operating on reduced limits to provide for the risk of loss in condemned pigs. We understand that the Inspectors are now paying regular visits to the /shows in Wellington, and examining the work exposed for sale. This action has resulted in a large number of piis being condemned and several of the butchers are declining to ton oh "nrk nt present prices. We succeeded in clearing our yards at the lower range of prices.
