EVENTS IN SHANNON.

The Shannon Cricket Club held a social niul dance last Friday in the Druids' Hall to ireplenish its funds. A jolly evening eventuated and an excellent programme was provided. Shannon's old favourites, namely Mr and Mrs May, made their ireappearance and wore well received. Mr May was especially good in "HoW can they tell that J am Irish," and "Harrigan." On both occasions he received an encore. Mr and Mis May were heard to perfection in "Molly Malone." Mi "Webb, of Tokomani. was appreciated in a recitation entitled "Not Understood," wiliich he gave at special request. Miss Haves, also of Tokomainij was amusing in a monologue entitled "A Child's Questions." Little Myrtle T remow an was also very good in "Johnny Morgan's Sister." The music far the dance was played by Miss E. Rerquist, of Palmerston North. Extras were played bv Mr.s Ma y and the Misses Judd and Laurvig. Mr E. J. King carried out the duties of M.C. A daiutv supper was provided bv tho ladies in the lodge room. the whole enter- 1 tainment reflected great credit on Mr "W. Rerque.st (the secretary) and the committee.

Mr Leu 0' Connor is leaving this distinct, he having been offered ti good pnsit.l'oll with Messrs Hislop and Brandon, solicitors, of Wellington. Mr O'Connor has for some Considerable time been secretary to the Druids Lodge, which position it will be bard t-o> fill. He was also an energetic and bard working membeir of tilie lodge's so'lial committee. His many friends will join in wishing him good luck in bis new sphere. Shannon has enjoyed two perfect <lays after a week's bad weather. An abundance of green feed looks promising for the dairy farmers who expect an exceptional season.
