IMPORTANT LETTER FROM MR,

HOGG, M,P

A meeting of the committee set up to advance the closer settlement of the land surrounding Levin met last night in the borough offices, Oxford street. Mr Clias. Palmer presided, and thcro wore, also present: Mess re Butler, Smart, T. Williams, Lancaster, Bower, France. It was the unanimous opinion of tho committee that a. closer subdivision of several largo Mocks neai the town was highly desirable, and a resolution was framed and carried for presentation to the general committee suggesting that the Government Commissioner should inspect several blocks specified, aggregating 18, ID Pacrps, with a view to their acquisition by the Government for closer settlement. The following lot-tor was received from Mr Hogg, M.P., by Mr T. Williams, and" explains itself:--Mr T. A. Williams, Levin, Sir,-—I have your favour informing mo that a league to secure closer settlement has been formed in Levin. It is an unfortunate tli.in« that in spite of all kinds of promises and professions, large blocks of native land, such as von have in yam neighbourhood, suitable for close, settlement, have been allowed to fal" into a few hands.
