ST. MARY'S CHURCH SOCIAL.

The annual socia] in connection with St. Mary's Church, Levin, was ibeld last night, in the church sdhoolroom, at 8 p.m. Owing to windy woather and the prevailing influenza there was a small attendance only, in spite of which, however, a very enjoyable evening was spent. Alter refreshments had been passed round, tlio proceedings were enlivened by two excellent violin solos by Miss Maud Remington, who showed 'herself to be a true lover of music by the soul aiul tone slie instilled into anrl produced from her instrument. Mir Smith contributed a song and a flute solo, which showed seme considerable execution. _ Mr Hayfiekl accompanied .it the piano. During an interval tlio Vicar referred to Mio recent departure of Mr and Mrs De la Mare, and oxprossed his regret that they were about to lose Mr and Mrs Travers very shortly. After touching upon the thoroughness with which Mrs Travers baa undertaken any church work, ho asked hor kindly to accept—in the nnmo of some of the church members, all of whom sincerely regretted their departure—a handsomely hound copy nf_ "Whittier's" poems. Mr Travers suitably responded, and t.hankod the Vicar for all the kind words spoken of them, adding that one can't make friends in a day, and that in leaving for Nelson they were not leaving without some regrets. At the close the Vicar read the following extract from a letter received that day from the Bishop of Wellington : "Thank you for the list of you,r mission services, which I am glad to have. Yes, T heartily agree that vou should use the Century Hnll for the .Sunday evening service as it holds so many more. "Will yon thank the Methodist minister in my name, as well as yours for his goodness." The proceedi?itrs terminated with the National Anthem.
