ROVERS (3) v. LEVIN LADIES (1).
A match between Levin laddes and tho Rovers took place yesterday afternoon on tho Levin Recreation Ground. Tiro fact that tho Rovers wore skirts and played with one hand only was a sufficient attraction to induce a fairly large gathoning to be present. It had been anticipated, that tihero would lie some interesting situations to witness, but the gentlemen fouiiid that they had formidable opponents to contend' with and played, as far as they could do under the circumstances, serious ltoekey. The opening bully was between Smart and Miss Francis, and in tho opening stages the laddes got the bettor ol matters and pressed severely. However, the gentlemen began to have a look in and in the end Howe Shot a good) goal. Soon af forwards Gardener followed suit. The ladies subsequently made a fine rally and had hard lines in not scoring. At the end of the first half the Rovers were leading by 2 goals to love.
The second spell opened much in the same way as tlve first. Outfield added another goal for the Rovers, audi for some time the ladies were vary much pressed. Towards the close they rallied greatly and put in some effective work, and as the result of some good passing Miss Whitehon.se scored. Mr J. Shankland controlled the game.
A North v. South match otf the Horowhenua County will take place at Otaki on Wednesday next week, and subsequently a tea in will be selected to play Manawatu at Palmerston North.
Otaki were to have played Hni Mai, but tho latter club has had to close its season prematurely owing to its inability to get a team together.
