They have 'brought If ponies, and ■IS Siberian dogs.
They intend to rest two months at I.yttelton, until tho Terra Nova arrives.
McMurdo Sound will lie the ba.se of operations, but there will be another base one hundred miles east. The ship will not remain in tho Antarctic circle, bint will retuirn to New Zealand. (t is going back to the polar regions the following summer.
The expedition is expected to bo absent aboii't three venr.s.
Questioned regarding the proposed Japanese expedition, Messrs Mears and Mrnce stated tlja.t CMOOO sterling had been subscribed, and the Government had given the expedition an obsolete gunboat.
