Ayrshires for New Zealand.

The Xortb British Agriculturist of the liJtli May gives some particulars as under of the Ayrshire cattle recently imported by Co-ck-bn;rn Urns., Alafaura:-

My the s.s. Xairnshire, leaving Liverpool last week. .Mr Clement, r«l' Xetherton, shipped out a yearling bull and two hull calves to Xew Zealand. The yearling was Xetherton Mackenzie 8070, a dark-col-oured youngster of great promise. He is sired bv Xetherton Midland (ioßl, whose dam had; a record of 118(5 gallons of milk of 3.9 pei cent butter hit in one season, while his gi'anddam gave over 1000 gallons each year for two successive years. On the dam's side he is out of a cow descended from the old Dromore stock, viz. : Xetherton Kate Ith, which as a heifer at first lactation gave 821 gallons at 3.8 per cent butter I'll. fier dam was also a very heavy milker, giving over 1000 gallon* each year. The t calves shipped are of exceptional pedigree .one being Xetherton MacKachran 8111, sired bj Xetherton Midland (i-181. and the dam Todihill Xew England', which, when under three years of age, gave O'i-J gallons of 3.1 per /cent ibntter fat, anil gives promise of developing into a bigger milker. Her dam, Old Xew Kngland, Iras a record of 1 '31 i? gallons of .').B pel cent. This cow in a space of three years and ten .months, produced four calves, and gave in all -17-10 gallons of milk of 3.7 ])ei cent. She is now a cow of twelve years old, and at Fenwick Show last week took first prize in the 1200 gallon class, and was giving as high as (Kilbs o.f milk per day lately. Her daugliiter took first prize in the 1000 .gallon class at the same show. The other hull calf, Xet'herton King Midas 8113, is sired by that famous bull Xetherton King Arthur 7131, whose dam's record was 920 gallons of milk of 4.0 per cent butter fat in thirty-four weeks, and was giving 20Jlbs of milk of -*i. 1 per cent daily at close of test. The da in is an Overtn'n-bred (|iiey, wh ;,l h gives promise of doing well. Tier record at _ two and a half years old was 7(iG gallons of .T.B per cent butter fat. It is to be hoped that these animals will prove a success to theii new owners, and do something towards increasing the nrvpularitv <vf the Ayrshires in Xew Zealand. This shipment is further evidence of the growing demand from all .parts o>f the world for milking stock, and now that buyers have figures to guide them, thev should have more confidence in risking the oxikmikcof importing sires which are likely •to increase the milk yield of theii stcifk.
