The Chronicle. PUBLISHED DAILY SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 1910. RIFLE CLUBS' PRIVILEGES.

upon the Premier this week. The summary of the Premier's remarks whidh we reprinted from a Wellington newspaper is said to ininimi.se the actual concessions to rifle clubs which the Premier promised. A

prominent rifle club official writes us from Wellington to say that Sii Joseph Ward did not say "that there would be no limit to the free ammunition." He stated that, ''regarding cheap ammunition, he would allow chilis to purchase as much as they required at the cheaper rate, viz., os per 100."

Our informant goes on to say: — "Now as in Australia they Can buy 200 at os, this is a greater ctow-es-sion than we (the rifle elubs) expected. It will bo an immense boon, to the country clubs in .particular. The rifle, instead of costing C' 3 lite cash, will be paid for in two instalments — twelve months .apart. The other points submitted by the deputation are reserved for consideration, and we expect to' get further concessions. What has / been got already gives us an excellent start, as we did not expect to

get a definite answer to any point at once. Mr TV. H. Field, M.V., deserves great credit, and thanks for the determined way be has battled for the interests of rifle clubs. It speaks volumes for has energy and: his standing with bis fellow members, when be could secure thirty members of Parliament to attend 'the deputation. Of course he was Hie r.liief speaker, having organised it, and he made many telling points. There are many riflemen in your district, and it is only fair that they .should know what their representative has done fnr them. Tt is something for the Otaki Electorate to be proud of, that their member should be the man to induce the Government to adequately cater for the rifle clubs and thus provide a splendid resenre for the country."
