LADIES' BALL AT SHANNON.
(By " Henrietta.") A complimentary ball tendered by the ladies to the bachelors and bene* diets, was held in the Druids' ilall o'i Friday night last. There were 180' present, exclusive of spectators, among whom were visitors from Palmerston, Wellington, Lev.i Foxton and New Plymouth. y.v Arch. McMinn, ot Palmerston, supplied the music. The duties oi M \sC. wore divided between Mrs J. Hallam and Misses N. Crowthei arid B. Owens. _ The following, to whom great praise is due, were -responsible for the entertainment:— Mesdames H. G. Harris, P. O'-Con-nor, R. E. Selby, J. Tillinjr, Callighan, White, J. Hallam, OHagen, t. J. Jefferies, D. Harris, Misses B. Owens, D. Buttj G. Gardiner, M. l.insell, A. Gardiner, Delaney, M. Ryan, L. Curran, E. Doherty, E. Crowthar, N. CroWther. The stage was artistically decorated with everg!?ens and camellias, and provided with card tables and easy chairs foi the comfort of non-dancei'S. Supper Avas provided in the lodge room, which looked gfty with bunting and evergreens. The tables were decorated with spring flowers and dainties. The whole committee wa& indefatigable in its efforts to make the affair a success, and wore well rewarded by the large attendance. It was undoubtedly the most fashionable function of the season. Many pretty dresses were to bo seen, which was Mesdames Laurvig, black silk, relieved with cream ; J. Murray, cream serge; T. C. Luickley, brown velvet, princess robe' Hallam. dainty white silk; N( rman, black silk, covered with spangled net; J. Kennedy, very di'inty pale blue silk, with overdress criffon; 0. Hagen, yellow silk, relieved with black velvet: O'Connor, black satin, with red in corsage; McGowen, black silk; Walsh, pink muslin; . E. Selby, pale blue silk, tr'mined with pink roses; Terry, pale with black velvet; McGrath, dainty blue silk; H. G. Karris, black princess dress; White, black satin; Morwood, cream satin; D. Harris, white silk; Tilling, black voile trimmed with velvet; Jefferies. black and white; Gunning, white s.ik; black silk; Misses ■ > cott, white silk, empire gown; F.
